Taken from the story in the much-loved classic novel Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery, the musical is set in Avonlea, a small Canadian farming community. The book of the musical is by Donald Harron, music by Norman Campbell, Lyrics by Donald Harron and Norman Campbell with additional lyrics by Mavor Moore and Elaine Campbell.
This musical captures the timeless qualities of Anne, Marilla and Matthew and is the story of an orphan girl finding a home, a family and the people and opportunity to realise her potential.
The lively songs reflect the spirit of each of the characters and create the journey as we watch Anne learn life’s lessons and mature from a young girl to a young woman.
Main Characters:
Anne Shirley – young girl full of energy and imagination. She is good student but can have a fiery temper
Marilla Cuthbert – Late 50s, a no-nonsense woman who lives with her brother Matthew she has a wry sense of humour.
Matthew Cuthbert – Early 60s- a sweet, softly spoken farmer
Gilbert Blythe – about the same age as Anne, smart and confident.
Rachel Lynde – early 60s: outspoken and indiscreet. Marilla’s best friend
Diana Barry – young girl, Anne’s best friend
Josie Pye – young girl- a schemer and Anne’s enemy
Miss Muriel Stacy – Schoolteacher and role model and mentor to Anne
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE NEED ADULTS FOR SOME OF THE ROLES AS THE SHOW IS NOT A FULL YOUTH PRODUCTION. WE ESPECIALLY REQUIRE MEN AND TEENAGE BOYS OF ALL AGES.
Ensemble with featured roles
The ensemble is made up of several older children, villagers, a shopkeeper and a range of other characters. They have a big part in moving the story along.

We are seeking a range of folk from the age of 10 years up.

At the Audition
You will be asked to sing Happy Birthday and Advance Australia Fair. If you want to audition for a character role you can prepare a song from the show however it is not a requirement. (If you do prepare a song you will need to provide your own backing track on your phone, and we will have a Bluetooth speaker available).
You will also be asked to read something from the script. Click the link at the bottom (or cut and paste) to download the reading. You might also be asked to do a cold reading.
Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes as we will be doing a short group audition in movement. The individual audition will be about 10 minutes and then a little later there will be a group 10-minute movement session. The total time could be up to an hour.
